Hi everybody. I am Soyeb, a cyber security student. I am also a freelancer. In this article I will tell about how I messed up a 350$ order from my client.

About The Order

The order I got was from fiverr platform. I am a beginner in freelancing area but still I managed to get 3 project in just one month from this platform.

The first two orders went well. I got 5⭐ on each and also nice complement from my clients.

The first order was only for 10$. But still I did that because I knew it was my chance to score and get a rating and chances don’t come everyday, so I took the offer.

The next order was for 110$ dollars. The client was asking me to teach him web development using Django. That was really good offer for a beginner like me. Everyday I taught him for about 30 minutes and after 10 days, the the order was complete. Again got a 5⭐ from my client.

The final order was from an Entrepreneur. He wanted to build a SaaS product. I don’t want to reveal his idea here to you all. But the order was to build a full stack site using React and Django. And I accepted the order, because I didn’t want to miss a chance to earn 350$. It’s a lot for an average Indian student.

How I Messed The Order

My first plan was to design the pages in first week. The client did sent me the raw HTML he coded but it was really really poorly designed. I asked him if he had UI/UX frames designed in some designing software, but he said “no”.

So I ditched the plan to build front-end first, and started building the backend API endpoints. I had experience in Django development, so I completed the back-end in about 6 days. Django framework did help me a lot.

Next I went back to front-end and started designing the pages. When finally I showed him the designs, he said “I want the pages exactly like mine”. Though the pages were terrifyingly ugly I started working on it.

After about 4 days, I gave up. I mean I wanted to complete the order. But the thing is I was not good enough in front-end to build the pages. Somehow I managed to build 3 or 4 pages but then I have real difficult time joining the Django back-end with Next js auth. I was not able to get the same result he wanted.

So when I realize it was not happening, I asked him if he just wants the back-end for 110$. He denied. So finally I told him everything, and he closed the order.

If you liked my story, consider following me. I also write about Django development regularly. So if you’re interested in backend development you will get valuable knowledge from my articles.

Bye. Have a good day everyone.
